Many people have contacted us asking how they can support our new board game Mine Dash. My answer has been to buy our books and let me know if you’d be interested in play testing. We need to wait to make any substantial leaps forward with the game until after the Move Mining competition, in order to see what kind of funding and support we can earn.
But now I can tell you of a way to support our board game. By backing a new mining-themed board game recently launched on Kickstarter. Fantastically, “Ore: The Mining Game” reached fully funded status in under 24 hours, and also it got selected by Kickstarter as a “Project we Love”.
Ore: The Mining Game
In the game, players take on the role of mining companies during the industrial revolution. These mining companies must compete to supply the urban growth with the raw materials it requires. The game designers, with no working experience in the modern-day mining industry, spent seven years developing and refining the game before attracting a major publisher to launch the final edition.
The funding period for Ore is open until February 21. The game still needs additional support to reach their stretch goals and extend their appeal. The more funding this game earns, the further validation that mining as a central component in a board game can be both exciting and profitable. Plus it looks like a super fun game. Ore would make for a fun game night. This board game would be a great addition to any mining or exploration camp. It could give your a try at making some strategic decisions to operate a mining company. It just might be a fun networking activity at your next mining conference too!
Support Mining-themed Board Games
The success of this game validates that mining-themed games can attract avid board game enthusiasts. The mining industry should promote these kinds of games and also encourage designers to explore the challenges in modern mining. Board games could be an excellent conduit to attract the younger generations to the mining industry. They just might find the inspiration to join and help innovate mining companies in the future to even better provide the materials required for our rapidly advancing technological world.
We encourage you to also back this game. It looks like they can ship to most places in the world. Once the project closes they will send out digital files so we can play the game while waiting for the full board game to be published and shipped. Let’s show them that mining professionals appreciate the creation of these board games. Click on the image below to go to the Kickstarter project page. Make your pledge before the funding period closes!
(We have no affiliation with the makers of this game, though we’ve backed the Kickstarter project and we’re excited for the game to arrive).
